Why was KLINU created? It all starts with a personal story
I was born in Málaga, with Dutch roots on my mother's side. Living between two cultures, two different ways of understanding the city, allowed me to see something clearly from a young age:
Dogs are part of our lives, but they don't always teach us how to live responsibly in the city.
I've grown up with dogs for as long as I can remember. The first was a black Labrador named Sammy, then came two more Labradors, a red-nose pit bull, and a dachshund named Blue. Currently, Vita, Gia, and Blue still set the pace at home.
After so many years of living with and walking dogs, I learned two things:
- The joy a dog brings you is incomparable.
- But the impact on the street is also significant if you don't do things right.
The real problem: urine, smell, and sidewalks that can't take it anymore.
It may seem like a minor issue, but it is one of the most common problems in cities: dog urine in urban areas, especially on sidewalks .
Almost no one says it in public... but everyone thinks it when they walk past lampposts, street corners and doorways that smell bad.
And it's not about blaming the dogs, but about assuming something basic: if we have a dog, we have a responsibility.
Like many, I started using a makeshift water bottle to clean up after my dog urinated. But it wasn't convenient. It wasn't aesthetically pleasing. And many times I left it at home out of laziness.
The walk that changed my perspective
Eventually, I moved to Madrid for work. There, I worked as a doorman at a hotel in the city center, and every day I walked the same streets to and from work.
It was during those walks, amidst the urban noise, that the idea that is now KLINU began to take shape.
What I saw was always the same:
- corners with a bad smell
- stained streetlights
- portals with that strong, acidic smell
- sidewalks that were never completely clean.
And although it may sound exaggerated, when you walk those streets every day, you begin to notice the invisible: that the problem isn't the dog...
The problem is the lack of tools for the owner to do things right.
One day, during my shift, I always saw a neighbor walking by with his two dachshunds. They would stop to urinate on the same corner, and he would take out a small plastic bottle to clean up the urine. He did this every morning, without fail.
That simple gesture has stayed with me.

It all started with drawings and a key question.
Sometimes, the best ideas come from something everyday. I started sketching what that ideal accessory would look like. I spent weeks creating designs, testing materials, adjusting the size, and thinking: What would I like to always have in my hand?
I wanted something compact. Something that had:
- Space for poop bags
- An integrated bottle for cleaning urine
- A comfortable and elegant design
Then the K1 was born. KLINU 's first accessory. And with it, a new way of walking began.
